JENNERSTOWN, Pa. — Matt Hirschman wasted no time in showing he knows the fast way around Jennerstown Speedway.
The 28-year-old from Northampton, Pennsylvania, was on or near the top of the practice charts throughout Saturday morning’s 40-minute session, and ended up posting the top time for the afternoon’s NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season opener.
Hirschman had a fast lap of 18.044 seconds (104.145 mph) around the .566-mile paved oval in preparation for the Morocco Welding/Wade Cole Memorial 133 presented by Dunleavy’s Truck & Trailer Repair.
Defending tour champion Doug Coby made a late run that briefly had him at the top of the charts, but settled for second quick at 18.091 (103.875 mph) – just .047 seconds back.
Justin Bonsignore, who was also fastest for a short time, ended third at 18.136 (103.617).
Ron Silk and Dave Sapienza were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Timmy Solomito was sixth, followed by Ronnie Williams, Craig Lutz, Eric Goodale and Jon McKennedy.
Qualifying is scheduled for 1:45 p.m., with the race at 2:30. The Morocco Welding/Wade Cole Memorial 133 presented by Dunleavy’s Truck & Trailer Repair will air live on TrackPass on NBC Gold.
