NASCAR and its partners provide funding for scholarships to institutions of higher education Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic Serving Institutions to nurture diverse talent and raise the sport’s visibility. The Wendell Scott Sr. scholarship was created to recognize Scott’s contribution to the sport and will provide the selected recipients with scholarships during the 2018-19 year. Wendell Scott Sr. was the first African-American to win a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Race. Contributions have been made to United Negro College Fund, the Hispanic Association of College & Universities and the DeVos Sports Business Management Program at the University of Central Florida.
